Biography

Voda’s been described “Joy Division covering Weezer songs.” Echoes of Manchester’s finest are evident in the rhythm section, melodic bass lines in lockstep with relentless, precise drumming. Married to this are a deadpan vocal delivery and churning rhythm guitar, both of which echo Paul Westerberg. Cutting through the mix are icy, angular, lead lines. With defiant lyrics and unorthodox arrangements that belie an underlying pop sensibility, Voda creates a propulsive sound that’s equal parts warmth and cold, comforting and unsettling all at once.

Between regular shows throughout the Boston area, Voda keeps busy with songwriting and recording at their own studio, nestled in the leafy suburbs of Boston. Eschewing the waning medium of albums in favor of EPs and one-off recordings, you never know just where they’re headed next.

Voda’s EP Fischer Random Chess. features the hard-charging live favorites “Come On” and “Bobby Fischer” as well as slow-burner “Rule 21,” and “Cartoon Hero,” a well-crafted piece of radio-ready pop. These impeccably-crafted songs are ready for heavy rotation just about anywhere. Available as a free download from Voda’s Bandcamp page, physical copies are always available at Voda shows.

For a glimpse at Voda’s quiet side, give a listen to Reduced Power, an EP of semi-acoustic versions of Voda live favorites, available for free download on Vodamusic.com.
